Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Hanoi
Hello! Welcome to Vietnam. If you’re in Hanoi early, explore the busy streets and French-style buildings. Grab a Vietnamese coffee at a sidewalk café or wander through the Old Quarter. Tonight, your guide will pick you up from your hotel at 9 pm and take you to the train station for your journey to Sapa. You’ll board the sleeper train alone, possibly sharing with locals or fellow travelers.
Day 2: Sapa
Upon arrival in Lao Cai in the morning, hop on a minibus for a scenic ride to Sapa. Enjoy stunning views as you traverse the hillsides. Upon reaching Sapa, savor a breakfast of Bun cha with your local guide amidst breathtaking rice terraces. Then, settle into your hotel. In the afternoon, visit the central market to browse local goods and crafts, accompanied by a tasting tour of delicious snacks that make up a full meal. Sample popular Sapa delicacies and delve into the local culture and lifestyle with your guide.
Day 3: Sapa Trek
After breakfast, head towards Lao Cai for today’s trek. Follow a narrow uphill trail for about 2 hours to Sa Seng, where you’ll marvel at the stunning views of Fansipan Peak and Muong Hoa Valley. Journey on to Hang Da Village, nestled at 1800 m and offering incredible valley vistas. Enjoy a picnic lunch with your group before continuing to Hau Thao village, soaking in panoramic valley views. Rest and interact with the local Black Hmong community upon arrival. The trek then proceeds to Giang Ta Chai village, your homestay for tonight. After settling in and meeting the Giay community, indulge in a delicious homecooked dinner with your hosts.
Day 4: Sapa – Hanoi
After a filling breakfast, embark on a 2 to 3 hour hike to Su Pan Village. Follow the path to Giang Ta Chai village of the Red Dzao minority, passing through terraces and bamboo forests. Encounter waterfalls where buffalo may cool off and cross a suspension bridge. After crossing Muong Hoa River, ascend to Su Pan, the final village of the trek. Grab a quick bowl of pho before meeting your vehicle for a short drive back to Sapa. Once in Sapa, enjoy a free afternoon to explore. Consider getting a massage or browsing the local market for produce, herbal remedies, and fresh meats. Purchase any hill tribe crafts you fancy or relax with a drink while admiring the misty mountains. Tonight, board another overnight train to Hanoi.
