Day 1: Hanoi – Lang Son – Cao Bang
At 7:30 AM, we’ll pick you up from your hotel and head to Lang Son, a journey of about 185 miles (310 kilometers) passing through rice fields and villages. Along the way, we’ll visit an ethnic village known for its rice production and a historical site where The Battle of Dong Khe took place during the First Indochina War in 1950. After lunch, we’ll visit Mother’s Temple and Dong Kinh Market before dinner and overnight stay at a hotel in Cao Bang city.
Day 2: Cao Bang – Ban Gioc Waterfall – Ba Be Lake
After breakfast, head to Trung Khanh district near Vietnam’s border with China. Explore Phuoc Sen village, home to the Nung people known for making farming tools. Journey to Ban Gioc Waterfall, a stunning natural wonder marking the Vietnam-China border. Take in the views and then visit Nguom Ngao “Tiger Cave” with impressive limestone formations. Return to Cao Bang town, travel to Ba Be Lake, and stay overnight in a traditional Tay ethnic family house. Relax, unwind, and enjoy a homemade local meal at the homestay.
Day 3: Ba Be Lake – Hanoi
Relax onboard and spot wildlife, or take a refreshing swim in the cool, clean waters of Ba Be Lake. Admire the karst scenery adorned with wild vegetation as you float along. Explore Puong Grotto’s caves, marveling at the stalactites and stalagmites formed by river erosion. Look out for the bat colony as well. Then, embark on the 150-mile (230-kilometer) journey back to Hanoi, stopping at tea plant hills before returning to your hotel in the bustling city.
